In North America, #2&Btr random dimension showed a firmer tone across most widths, with 2×6 and 2×10 standing out, rising by roughly 10% over the month.
Canadian SPF J-grade concluded Q3 business at levels slightly above Q2 or largely unchanged, supported by lean inventories throughout the distribution chain. Upside was partially capped by competition from Europe, while some buyers continued shifting toward lower-cost domestic Sugi alternatives in response to margin pressure amid a persistently weak yen environment.
Looking ahead, it will be important to monitor whether North American #2&Btr can sustain its recent upward momentum. Meanwhile, the J-grade premium over #2&Btr has been gradually narrowing since the beginning of the year, and further compression of this spread may place additional pressure on export J-grade pricing going forward.
